LA GRANGE PAVILION

Completed 2017
Design Team: Murray Legge, Travis Avery, Benjamin Kaplowitz
Builder: ShroycoOcean Quest
Consultants: TK Consulting Engineers
Photography: Leonid Furmansky

This landscape, pavilion, and outdoor kitchen is sited in a grove of oak trees high on a bluff overlooking the forest and farmland of East Texas. Low walls are set into the landscape at the edge of the bluff, lowering the building’s overall height and nestling it into the site.

Limestone paving is used to clad the low retaining walls and columns. The wing-like roof is dark in color, in order to appear as if it is floating in the grove – blending in with the dark trunks of the trees that surround. The zero edge pool reflects the trees and sky connecting it to the landscape.
